39mm Xipheroceras sp.
This ammonite was collected near Charmouth, Dorset, on the Jurassic Coast and has been prepared using a combination of air chisel and abrasive techniques. Please note, this specimen is not free-standing but will be sent with a plastic stand free of charge.
This specimen is a part of the 'perfectly imperfect' range, but what does that mean?
All fossils are 'perfectly imperfect' by their very nature, some just a little more so than others. This might be due to preservation state, damage from exposure in the beach system, an unlucky reveal on the beach or a number of other factors. As a result, these fossils are priced notably lower than they would otherwise had they been 'perfect'. A great deal of my personal collection includes fossils with plenty of character, and quite often these are the 'perfectly imperfect' fossils that still have stories worth telling, and should be admired for being able to be seen and enjoyed at all.
This ammonite has been repaired due to an unlucky beach break (see the final image where the glue line is present).
Diameter of Ammonite: 39mm
Age: Jurassic, Lower Lias (~195 million years old)
Size (mm): 39 x 34 x 27
